Four years after her critically acclaimed 2012 album True, Solange Knowles has returned to the music with ‘A Seat at the Table’.
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement to share this body of work I have written, with you,” Knowles wrote in an Instagram post.
A soulful siren among titans, Solange has proven that musical authenticity still matters. A Seat at the Table is unapologetic, raw and authentically Solange in all the best ways. With harmonies from bayou dreams to music from actual instruments, this album aims to be Solange’s best work to date.
Let’s begin with her rollout. In a time of surprise albums and streaming exclusive, Solange aimed at her fan base by providing an intimate experience. She invited her fans to a new website and a new book (both e and hardcover) ahead of Friday’s album release.
Knowles describes the album as “a project on identity, empowerment, independence, grief and healing,”
The 21-track album, which Solange began writing and producing in 2013, features the of voices of Devonte Hynes, Tweet, Sampha, the Dream, BJ the Chicago Kid, Q-Tip, Moses Sumney, Kelly Rowland, Kelela, Sean Nicholas Savage and Nia Andrews.
